Building the Next Generation of Conservationists
NextGen Birders for Conservation is a program of the Northern Virginia Bird Alliance focused on fostering curiosity, excitement, and connection around birds, thereby helping to create the next generation of birders and conservation champions.
Join NextGen!
New birders of any age 18+ are welcome to join this group. Our events and programming are designed with beginner birders in mind, but birders of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels are always welcome!
NextGen Birders hosts casual, social, bird-focused events designed to inspire a deeper interest in our avian friends while building meaningful human connections and fostering community engagement. Some events we host:
Monthly bird walks at parks across Northern Virginia (socializing encouraged!)
Quarterly Wingspan Game Nights & Bird-themed trivia events
Field trips and day trips to bird-focused destinations, such as the Bird House at Smithsonian’s National Zoo.

NextGen Birders for Conservation maintains a Meetup page where you can learn more about the group, meet the members and sign up for upcoming events. Join over 650 young adults who share your enthusiasm and passion for birds and nature!

Volunteer with Us
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. Your time and enthusiasm power our conservation and educational outreach efforts, both in the field and behind the scenes, helping us do more for birds, wildlife and habitat in northern Virginia.
