Join us Sunday, June 8, for a brief annual meeting followed by a program, “Raptor Reproduction and Nesting,” featuring live birds! We will gather informally starting at 2:30 PM in the cafeteria of the National Wildlife Federation Building, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, in Reston. We welcome you to bring snacks and drinks to share.
At 3:00 PM we’ll have a brief Annual Meeting where we will elect officers and directors. The agenda is below.
Our main program will begin at 3:25 PM, when Secret Garden Birds and Bees will present “Raptor Reproduction and Nesting.” May I have this dance? Did you know that many raptors engage in dramatic aerial dances during courtship? You may have seen large eagle nests, but did you know that those nests can be as big as six feet wide and four feet tall, and that bald eagles support their chicks for up to 6 months! Do raptors mate for life out of mate loyalty or nest loyalty? Secret Garden Birds and Bees will share some of the amazing things we’ve learned about raptor reproduction – from courtship to mating, nesting to chick-rearing. And you will be able to meet their live adult hawks, owls, and a tiny falcon up close to see some of these adaptations in person. You might even get to take a selfie!
Secret Garden Birds and Bees is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization working with wildlife rehabilitators, falconers, naturalists, biologists and beekeepers to share their love of nature and wildlife with our communities.
The agenda for the business meeting is as follows:
