Why Local Membership Matters
You can love birds from anywhere, but the birds outside your window depend on the people who show up for them right here. We are growing the work we do here in northern Virginia and we need your support to make it happen.
We are a proud chapter of National Audubon, but we need your help to fund the work happening in our own backyards. Every dollar given through the local membership stays here in northern Virginia, supporting the walks, habitat, science and advocacy that makes this a place where birds – and the people who love them – can thrive.
When you choose to become a local member, you’re not just giving – you’re joining our flock.

Join the Roost
The roost has two membership levels. Both run for one year and include the same benefits.
During checkout, you can set this membership up to automatically renew and receive notification before your card is charged again.
Individual Membership
$35 per year
For one bird lover who wants to support the work close to home.
Family Membership
$50 per year
For the whole nest - covers two adults and all kids under 18 in your household.
Quarterly members-only newsletter with news from the field and where your support is at work.

What Your Membership Makes Possible
Your annual membership to the Northern Virginia Bird Alliance allows us to grow our programming right here. Your gift supports:
A community you can be part of. Our bird outings, social events and online gatherings help us create programming for northern Virginians of all birding backgrounds.
Bird Guide training program to support diverse bird outing leaders of every age
Habitat protections and restoration across northern Virginia’s parks, wetlands, and green spaces.
Community science projects like bird monitoring and collecting data that can support real conservation decisions in our communities

If you’re a first-time member of National Audubon and you sign up through us, we get 100% of your first gift. Every year after that, your gift goes directly to National and none of that comes back to Northern Virginia. We created our local membership to fill that gap for folks we know want to support their local conservation work too. We support members being members of both organizations.

A family membership covers two adults and all children under 18 in your household.

NVBA is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit. You will receive an acknowledgement for your records.

Absolutely – a membership is a wonderful gift for the bird lover in your life. Simply input their name at check out with your payment information so the membership is in their name. If you like, you can also email us at info@nvbirdalliance.org and we can make you a digital certificate to give to the recipient as well.

Membership runs for one year from the day you join, and we’ll send a friendly reminder before it’s time to renew.

Interested in joining National Audubon Society? They’ve updated their system and no longer accept paper checks for your membership. You can join NAS here through this link [insert link]. If you’re a first time member, NVBA will get 100% of your gift. If you’re renewing your membership with National, those dollars will stay with them.
