The population of Osprey in the saltier portions of the Chesapeake Bay is declining dramatically due to the overfishing of menhaden on which the Osprey rely as a principal food source. 

This year has brought some troubling signs for these impressive birds.

It’s always a joy when Osprey return to northern Virginia in the spring to breed after their winters in the Southern Hemisphere, but reports of increased nest failure are cause for concern.

Carol Stalun, who is a skilled and talented nature photographer, took photos of an Osprey killing a crow. This is probably the first incident, documented with photographs, of an Osprey killing a wild bird.
