The Northern Virginia Bird Alliance is seeking a passionate, creative volunteer to transform our social media presence and connect with bird enthusiasts across the region and beyond. If you love birds and have a knack for engaging digital storytelling, this opportunity is perfect for you!

About Northern Virginia Bird Alliance
We're dedicated to protecting birds and their habitats through conservation, education, and community engagement. Our mission takes flight through bird walks, habitat restoration projects, educational programs, and advocacy efforts that make a real difference for our feathered friends.

What You'll Do:

  • Content Creation: Develop engaging posts featuring stunning bird photography, conservation tips, upcoming events, and educational content

  • Community Building: Foster connections with local birders, nature photographers, and conservation enthusiasts

  • Platform Management: Maintain consistent presence across Facebook, Instagram, and potentially TikTok or YouTube (not a priority first 3 months).

  • Event Promotion: Showcase our bird walks, virtual events, conservation projects, and volunteer opportunities

  • Storytelling: Share success stories, member spotlights, and behind-the-scenes content from our activities

  • Engagement: Respond to comments, messages, and build meaningful relationships with our online community

  • Analytics: Track performance and suggest strategies to grow our reach and impact

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience managing social media accounts (personal or professional)

  • Understands various social media platforms and their unique audiences

  • Possesses strong writing skills and an eye for compelling visuals

  • Has basic photo editing capabilities (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)

  • Can commit 3-5 hours per week with flexible scheduling

  • Shares our passion for birds, wildlife, and environmental conservation

  • Brings fresh ideas and enthusiasm for digital engagement

What We Offer:

  • Meaningful volunteer experience supporting local conservation

  • Opportunity to build your digital marketing portfolio

  • Free access to NVBA events

  • Networking with local naturalists, photographers, and conservationists

  • Training and support from our team

  • Letter of recommendation for outstanding service

  • Support from our Communications Committee - you will not be solely responsible for content creation.

  • The satisfaction of helping protect birds and educate your community

Time Commitment:

  • 3-5 hours per week (flexible scheduling) – with check-ins with our Executive Director as needed and a monthly team meeting.

  • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred

  • Some weekend posting may be needed for events and peak engagement times

Ready to Help Us Soar?
Send us a brief message telling us why you're excited about this opportunity, along with:

  • Three examples of social media content you’ve created (links to posts are fine)

  • Your availability and any relevant experience

If selected for an interview, you will hear back from our Executive Director by the middle of August. The interview process will consist of a zoom call to go over NVBA needs, your interests and determine fit. We look forward to talking with you!
